This course is designed to train you to know where you are, where you’re going, how to get there efficiently, and how to make sure resources can meet you there quickly.
Rangers often need to quickly and efficiently navigate the Burn and help others do the same. A camp fight that needs your mediation before it gets worse. An injury in deep Playa that needs Medical. Someone who really, really needs to go to the bathroom.
This course will let you practice those skills before landing at Black Rock City.
While having poor navigation skills could prevent you from becoming a Ranger, you are not expected to have mastered every skill in this optional training before your Alpha shift. A lot is learned during your Alpha and in the field, and some excellent Rangers simply will never be the best navigators.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, focus on practicing the content in Section 1 and 3, and just be aware of the ideas in Section 5 and 7.
Most veteran rangers have found some new and useful info across the whole course, though especially in Section 5. The most challenging test of skill is Section 8.
